Salmon farmer Scottish Sea Farms will take delivery of a new £6 million (€7 million/$8.3 million) multipurpose service vessel on a long-term lease in May.

The Kallista Helen will later be fitted with a £2.5 million (€2.9 million/$3.5 million) next generation Thermolicer, which will enable the salmon producer to better control sea lice.

Launched on March 15 by Ferguson Marine, the vessel was designed by Macduff Ship Design in partnership with Inverlussa and Scottish Sea Farms.

The Thermolicer was designed and engineered by ScaleAQ in Norway in partnership with ScaleAQ UK, and is the first of its kind to be constructed in Scotland with a capacity of up to 120 metric tons per hour.

The Kallista Helen is expected to arrive in Shetland in early May, where it will be fitted out by Scale AQ’s Scottish team and Ocean Kinetics.
