Norwegian land-based salmon farmer Fredrikstad Seafoods extended its long-term recirculating aquaculture systems feed agreement with BioMar for three more years.

The two companies have been working together on a sustainable feed diet for the land-based salmon facility in Fredrikstad for a few years, making sense to extend the cooperation for longer.

The owners of Fredrikstad Seafood have invested about NOK 400 million (€38 million/$43 million) in the Norwegian facility, which has a production capacity of around 1,500 metric tons per year.

Fredrikstad Seafoods is only harvesting small volumes of about 10 metric tons per week for the meantime, but will gradually ramp that up.

The holding company Nordic Aquafarms is planning to expand its European operations in the future however, for now, it is focusing its resources on the two larger land-based projects in the United States.
