NTSGaia Salmon, a fledgling land-based salmon producer, inked an agreement with recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) turnkey suppliers Eyvi and Total Betong for its 7,200-metric-ton facility in northern Norway.
Eyvi, together with Total Betong, has already designed and delivered a number of salmon facilities currently in operation.
Gaia Salmon will begin construction of its facility in the first quarter of 2022. The cost is estimated at NOK 235 million (€23 million/$27 million).
The company says on its website that it ultimately plans to list on the Oslo Stock Exchange. It is targeting production capacity of 50,000 metric tons within the next 10 years.
Roald Dolmen, a former head of strategy and business development at aquaculture conglomerate NTS, bought a 33.33 percent stake in Gaia Salmon in January through his investment company, RODO Invest, to finance the engineering and building process.
Dolmen joined Gaia Salmon in 2019 and now acts as chairman of the board. He holds almost four decades of experience in the aquaculture industry.
Bjarne Bjorkan continues to lead the business as general manager. He founded the company in 2015 along with Geir Skarstad and Morten Bjorkan.
