A new salmon processing plant could go online before Easter after Norwegian industry veteran Knut Harald Kristiansen bought a disused facility in Abelvaer in Nord-Trondelag.

Kristiansen closed the purchase agreement before Christmas. The facility was most recently used by Europharma.

He envisages a production capacity of around 20 metric tons daily, Kristiansen told IntraFish.

In the next few months, the plant will be refurbished and will have to go through Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) inspection, he said.

Kristiansen currently supplies Polish smokehouses with fresh salmon as well as frozen salmon to other markets through the company Polarartic Seafood, based in Finnmark.
