The new fifth edition of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) global standard for food safety is now in effect and audits of seafood processing plants using this latest – and much revised – version of the food safety standard began on July 1. Issue 5 of the standard was published in January, so retailers, producers and certification organisations have had six months to become familiar with its requirements.

The BRC used this six month period to develop its support and infrastructure for the new version.
