Icelandic equipment giant Marel Fish, already a powerhouse in the salmon processing sector, is starting to put more emphasis on the whitefish aquaculture sector, specifically for species such as tilapia, sea bass and bream, where it sees a healthy future.

“We are basically taking the proven solutions we have for salmon, and now adapting them into the whitefish aquaculture sector,” Sigurdur Ólason, managing director of Marel Fish, told IntraFish at the fourth annual Whitefish ShowHow in Copenhagen.

As part of the demonstrations this year there was a noticeable presence of machines capable of streamlined processing specifically for farmed whitefish.
