CONTRARY to the popular belief that line robots are high maintenance, complicated machines, Tony Ambrose from high profile machine maker AEW Delford, claims that the service intervals required on his company’s robots are around 4000 hours.

‘Although they’re comparatively new in the food industry, they’ve been used in other industries for many, many years so it’s very robust technology,’ he says.

‘People think a robot must be enormously complex, but in fact it is not at all. It is clever technology – the use of carbon fibre – and the use of clever software, but the basic mechanics of it is simply servo-motors.’
