The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) looks set to update its standards on what constitutes seafood decomposition after withdrawing its current rules.

The authority withdrew the latest rule set saying they were no longer up to date. They have now invited comment on new proposed rules, which, when finalised, will provide FDA staff with current regulatory action guidance relating to decomposition in fish and fishery products.

Furthermore, the Compliance Policy Guide (CPG) rules will lay out the procedure for taking enforcement actions when fish and fishery products are contaminated.
