Florida-based seafood producer Bonamar Corp. said it partnered with food safety facility Gateway America to launch the first nationally marketed line of ES (Extended Safety) crab meat products using a new method to eradicate pathogens.

Bonamar said this new process will extend crab meat's shelf life.

Gateway will process Bonamar's crab meat under US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) supervision. The FDA started approving processors to irradiate shellfish and kill harmful pathogens in 2014 following a petition from the National Fisheries Institute.
