Icelandic seafood company FISK Seafood is continuing to invest in its processing and automation, inking a €600,000 ($646,000) contract with equipment producer Valka for automated batching and packaging systems for light salted frozen fillets.

“This investment shows that we at FISK Seafood are forward-looking in our decisions," FISK Land-based Production Manager Asmundur Baldvinsson said.

The company will gain efficiencies with both its precision and on labor costs. The system automatically weighs, and then batches and packs based on a "game theory" algorithm.

The agreement was made virtually due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

Iceland's Utgerdarfelag Reykjavíkur’s (UR) acquired all FISK Seafood's shareholdings in Brim in September, making it the largest owner of the harvesting and processing giant.
