Alaska black cod prices are on the rise in Japan due to expected lower supply and stronger competition with other markets including the United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Japanese importers are currently asking for around JPY 2,100 (€18.20/$20.40) to JPY 2,200 (€19.10/$21.30) per kilo for frozen 4-5 pound headed and gutted products, which is JPY 70 (€0.61/$0.68) to JPY 80 (€0.69/$0.78) higher than in late August, sources in Tokyo told IntraFish.
Prices for 3-4 pound sizes also have increased by JPY 50 (€0.43/$0.48)
