Under a tropical downpour, Bernica, the last of the three purse seiners built by Piriou subsidiary Seas in Vietnam was formally handed to owners Sapmer, France’s second largest fishing company with interests in toothfish and rock lobster as well as Indian Ocean tuna fisheries.
In addition, IntraFish has learned Sapmer shareholder Jaccar has placed an order for two more vessels.
These two seiners are to be built at the Seas yard and, while no date has yet been announced for delivery, construction of the first of the pair is already in progress at the yard outside Ho Chi Mihn City.
