Chaffee, who’s been operating YAK in Bristol Bay since 1985, said that mainly, the purchase of the Naknek plant - the company’s first land based facility – was just a way for his company to remain in the area.
“I like Bristol Bay, I’ve been doing it for years,” said Chaffee. “I feel that if you’re going to be in Bristol Bay, having a cannery and freezing operations are the way to go.”
YAK hasn’t bought in Bristol Bay since 1999, but has been custom processing with four floating tenders.
