On Nov. 5, Norwegian Fisheries Minister Lisbeth Berg-Hansen announced salmon producers in Troms and Finnmark would be able to benefit from a higher maximum permitted biomass (MPB).

These regions have very low levels of sea lice, with lower resistance to treatment than in other parts of Norway, Berg-Hansen said.

WWF Norway said, the decision is in breach with a previous promise made by the minister and the country is not ready for an expansion at this stage.

“I have no respect at all for the decision to increase capacity in Troms and Finnmark,” the organization’s technical director, Nina Jensen, told IntraFish.
