The WWF International Smart Gear competition for developments in environmentally friendly fishing gear is to be held at the World Fishing Exhibition in Vigo, Spain, in September.
WWF will accept entries until June 30 and offer a grand prize of $30,000 (€22,000). Two runners-up will receive $10,000 (€7,300) each, and there's $7,500 (€5,670) for an East African regional prize.
“This year we’re trying to get word of Smart Gear out to the most local level possible, as there are just so many ideas out there and we are trying to increase the amount and type of entries we get,” Mike Osmond, senior fisheries program officer for WWF, told IntraFish publication Fishing News International.
