Danish land-based salmon farmer Langsand Laks – once touted as the first commercial on-land salmon farm – has seen several setbacks and will have to temporarily halt slaughtering at its farm and shut doors to its day-to-day business.
The facility, 10 percent owned by Danish trout producer AquaPri, will have to be reconstructed and rebuilt due to geographical issues, Henning Priess, owner and managing director at AquaPri, told IntraFish.
Issues with the geographical location of the farm forced a redesign of the water intake during the summer, and consequently Langsand will have to empty the growout hall in October 2014.*
