Total commercial world fish production may have hit the 160 million metric ton mark in 2013, up 1.9 percent year-on-year, according to a new report from the European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (EUMOFA).

Final figures are also expected to show a rise in the value of world exports of fish and fishery products to almost €100 billion ($137.7 billion), a 5.3 percent jump.

The growth of aquaculture output and high prices for leading traded species such as salmon and shrimp were the primary drivers, according to the report.

The
