The victim was identified as Joseph Teixeira, 40, of New Bedford, Mass.
Teixeira “got caught in an industrial ice producing machine and at least part of his body was crushed,” Gregg Miliote, spokesman for District Attorney Sam Sutter, told the South Coast Today newspaper.
The case, which the district attorney's office said appeared to be an accident, remians under investigation.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Monday at Northern Wind’s 43,000-square-foot processing facility in New Bedford.
