A Northern Ireland fishermen’s leader has slammed a proposal for a massive windfarm off Northern Ireland's county Down coast which will exclude the region’s fishermen from most of their best fishing grounds.

He is particularly angry because no consideration has been given to the effects of the windfarm on fishing activity. Fishermen in the fishing port of Ardglass especially will be badly hit if the windfarm goes ahead and Kilkeel and Portavogie will also be hit hard.

“If this plan goes ahead it will cause absolute misery all over the county Down coast,” said Dick James, chief executive of the Northern Ireland FPO.

“The windfarm will be in the middle of some of the best fishing grounds in the area and it will be impossible to work mobile gear.
