As ever, it seems that as soon as one obstacle is removed from the path of the struggling fisherman, another immediately replaces it.
In the United Kingdom it has been difficult for inshore fishermen to have to come to accept that Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs), Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and the host of other titles bestowed upon sites which, if not already so, will eventually represent ‘No-Take Zones’ for fishermen.
This has already seen some fishermen being no longer able to work on traditional grounds on their doorsteps and have to travel further to alternative grounds - and in doing so have to endure harsher weather conditions and suffer increased fuel costs without any added income.
