Will GM salmon be labeled in stores?

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that food from AquAdvantage Salmon is as safe and nutritious as that from non-GE Atlantic salmon and at this time does not require additional consumer labeling.

The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act provides the agency with the authority for mandatory labeling of food if there is material information that must be disclosed. But because the data and information evaluated "show that AquAdvantage Salmon is not materially different from other Atlantic salmon, the FDA has determined that no additional labeling of food from AquAdvantage Salmon is required," the FDA said.
