The world's largest U.S. organic and natural foods retailer unveiled sweeping new farmed salmon standards at a meeting this week with suppliers. The standards, which IntraFish obtained earlier this week, lay out strict requirements on how the salmon Whole Foods will buy must be raised.
Who wins depends largely on just how many of the standards and preferences Whole Foods chooses to require of its suppliers.
Conventional farmed salmon from Norway meets several of the requirements, according to Knut Hjelt, deputy managing director with the Norwegian Seafood Federation's aquaculture division.
For
