Last Monday’s announcement that the Russian Sea of Okhotsk pollock fishery will be certified to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard was a long time coming – but the question of when was up for debate, and parties on both sides were using it as a bargaining chip for a long time.

But with the formal certificate issued Tuesday by the MSC, covering products harvested as late as October 2012, the markets are getting a better sense of what all the additional MSC-certified pollock will mean.
