The National Organic Program (NOP) has yet to advance USDA organic standards recommended by the National Organic Standards Board (NSOB) into the final rulemaking stage of the process

The NSOB recommendations were passed in 2009. The final rulemaking stage will require an estimated 18 months after initiation, George Lockwood, chairman of NSOB's Aquaculture Working Group (AWG), told IntraFish on Wednesday.

So if the NOSB recommendations were approved today, it would be April 2013, at the earliest, before any further advance of the standards toward approval.
