If we take a look at the salmon exchange Fish Pool, where futures contracts are traded on salmon, the market is trading in salmon prices between NOK 40 (€4.90/$6.70) and NOK 45 (€5.50/$7.50) for the first half of the year. While there could be a decline to NOK 35 (€4.30/$5.80) during autumn, it looks like 2014 will be another good year for salmon prices.
However, this situation can quickly change -- virtually overnight. High prices create problems for the salmon industry in Europe, which has often suffered major losses when salmon prices have been high.
