With a little under six months to go to the Scottish referendum on independence in September, the debate is getting into full swing.

But curiously there seems to have been little public debate over what a Yes vote could mean for the fishing industry.

There will doubtless be some fishermen who will vote Yes regardless of the pros and cons because of a deep seated sense of Scottish identity, national pride and so on. But I suspect a majority, whatever their emotional feelings may be, are taking a more hard-headed look at the implications of Scottish independence for their industry and businesses.
