The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) last Friday closed down the recreational and commercial Dungeness crab fisheries following the discovery of high levels of marine toxins in razor clam fisheries in Oregon and Washington, according to the Daily Astorian.

The closure is the largest of its kind, according to the WDFW.

Commercial crabbers were required to pull their gear from the closed areas, from between Columia River and Point Chehalis, the website reported.

No crab harvested after June 5 can be kept or sold.
