The US-based supermarket giant told
IntraFish Friday it “remains committed to our ongoing effort to promote worldwide seafood sustainability and continue to require all fresh and frozen, farmed and wild seafood products we sell to become third-party certified as sustainable using Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), or equivalent standards.
“We are currently reviewing ASMI's (Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute) proposed certification with industry leaders, NGOs and academia on whether it will meet our standard of equivalency,” it added.
The retailer declined to name which groups it was in dialogue with about the ASMI standards.
