The move marks the completion of a seven-year project for United Kingdom-based Waitrose, and is another step in the supermarket’s ethical approach to sourcing.
In 1999, the supermarket stopped selling North Sea cod and haddock due to concerns over declining stocks and switched to sourcing from sustainable fisheries in Iceland. It is building on this commitment through the completion of this switch in sourcing methods.
Waitrose stocks the largest range of line-caught fish in the U.K. and plans to further increase this range in the next year.
