The retailer said by 2010 it would switch to sustainable sources of feed for all the farmed salmon it sells under its Waitrose Organic and Select farmed salmon, including fresh, smoked and poached fish.
Waitrose said it would phase out fish caught by beam trawling, citing damage the fishing method causes to the ocean floor. Instead, Waitrose will switch over from fish caught by beam trawl to fish caught by Danish seine.
Waitrose commited to switching over to mature flat fish across its fresh and breaded range of place and lemon sole, claiming it is the first major retailer to do so.
