Vietnamese pangasius exporters are shifting their focus on to Brazil as sales to the European Union continue to slump.
Two pangasius processors IntraFish spoke to during Vietfish 2012 already have plans to start selling the fish in Brazil because of its potential as a huge market.
“I’m confident that Brazil’s large population can become the next big pangasius market for us,” said Tafishco’s deputy general director Khuu Thi Cam Nhung.
Many Vietnamese exporters are trying to seek an alternative market to maintain its sales growth because sales to the European Union, Vietnam’s main market for pangasius, have been poor, said Viet Capital Securities research analyst Vu Thi Tra Ly.
