It looks like an early Christmas for Vietnamese pangasius farmers as their long-awaited loan bailout promised to them by the Vietnamese government is slowly being disbursed.

To stem falling pangasius production, the Vietnamese government in early August agreed on a loan aid package worth VND 9,000 billion (€333.7 million/$432 million) for farmers to borrow at a lower interest rate of 11 percent.

In An Giang Province, roughly VND 267 billion (€9.9 million/$12.8 million) has been given out to farmers, while in Vinh Long, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said six farming households had been able to borrow loans from the provincial Agribank at the new rate.
