Last year, the eight-member states of Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) generated more than $450 million (€390.9 million) in total revenue from their tuna fishery.
That figure is up from $60 million (€52.1 million) six years ago, and before that it flatlined for years, said PNA Commercial Manager Maurice Brownjohn during Monday night's World Tuna Day celebration at the United Nations.
"This shows the value of the fishery and exploitation," he said. "What sells in [seafood] is a fish with a story.
