The US Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard began a hearing Tuesday at 10:30 am to examine third-party sustainability certification of US seafood and its impact on the seafood options in grocery stores and restaurant.

The hearing will also explore ways to make sure current and future sustainability certification efforts can benefit both the seafood industry and consumers.

Lawmakers have succeeded in getting the GSA -- the procurement agency for the US government -- to remove any recommendations that vendors or purchasers use seafood certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or on the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch list.

Testifying
