On Monday, IntraFish reported in the future Russia would only import seafood from suppliers approved by the country’s veterinary and food authorities, Rosselkhoznadzor.

Ten countries are receiving visits from veterinarians responsible for inspecting seafood production.

Since the import ban was imposed on Norwegian salmon and trout on Jan. 1, 2006, the veterinary inspectors have moved on to Norwegian exporters of herring, mackerel and saithe. They have been busy in Vietnam, Chile and Iceland. At the moment they are in China, after which they are scheduled to travel to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Latvia, Uruguay, and Argentina.
