The United States imports of warmwater shrimp peeled and frozen only increased 671 metric tons between January and September this year over the same time in 2012, but the value jumped 10 percent, or $130 million (€96.4 million), according to statistics released Friday from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

Concern over limited supplies has forced up prices, as Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) has ravaged countries such as Thailand, China, Vietnam and Mexico.

Although Thailand's exports of warmwater shrimp peeled and frozen to the United States declined from 36,194 metric tons in 2012 to 20,964 metric tons in first nine months of 2013, the volume rose 2,123 metric tons from August to September this year.
