President Trump's proposed federal budget rolled out yesterday would transfer the US catfish inspection program back to the Food and Drug Administration to avoid potentially duplicative efforts and costs, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) said Wednesday.

Cutting the USDA program would save $2.5 million, according to the budget.

"This is just more evidence that anyone looking to cut waste and benefit American taxpayers, by getting rid of duplicative bloat, recognizes how much of a boondoggle this program has always been," said NFI's Gavin Gibbons.
