US supplier Keyport acquires company, launches retail line

It's been a big day for Seattle-based seafood producer and supplier Keyport LLC: The company announced an acquisition and launched a new retail line, both on Wednesday.

The company acquired Redmond, Washington-based seafood importer and marketer Vantage Seafood after "working on it for a couple of months," Mark Pedersen, Keyport co-owner and vice-president, told IntraFish.

Vantage is "just a good strategic fit for us," Pedersen continued, explaining while Keyport currently works with a lot of seafood out of Norway, Russia and Alaska, "Vantage has been really strong out of Asia and the Pacific Rim with scallops, swai, tilapia -- things that we want to get into, so it's complementary for new markets for us."
