Shrimp imports through August into the United States rose only 4 percent by volume, but fell nearly 17 percent in value, year-on-year, according to recently-released statistics from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
The United States imported 363,123 metric tons of shrimp worth $3.4 billion (€3.1 billion) in the first eight months of 2015.
Warmwater peeled frozen shrimp accounted for 40 percent of that volume and price with 143,972 metric tons worth $1.4 billion (€1.2 billion), a fraction increase in volume but 21 percent drop in value, year-on-year.
