Imports of shrimp to the United States continued a downward slide, decreasing 4 percent from January to May this year compared to the same time period last year, according to statistics released Wednesday from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

Frozen shrimp imports decreased 24.5 percent overall and frozen shrimp imports from countries hard hit by early mortality syndrome (EMS), such as Thailand, Indonesia and China, fell especially far.

It wasn't all doom and gloom for shrimp imports: More warmwater peeled frozen shrimp, the most imported variety of shrimp to the United States, came into the country.
