The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) voted 4-2 against countervailing duties, the final step in a months-long process of investigating and setting duties on shrimp imported from seven countries, including China, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Ecuador.

The ITC was investigating "whether there is a reasonable indication that the US industry is injured," ITC Public Affairs Officer Peg O'Laughlin told IntraFish earlier this year, while the DOC was investigating whether the government subsidies were, in fact, occurring.

If the ITC had voted affirmatively, the duties could have gone into effect as early as October, said Tim Truman of the United States Department of Congress (DOC), which jointly investigated the issue with the ITC.
