Several US scientists and concerned industry businesses are speaking out against the call to ban live lobster exports the the European Union. Sweden has asked the EU to put Maine lobster on its international list of invasive species.
Sweden stated it found more than 30 Maine lobsters along its west coast in recent years and American lobsters could harm European lobster by bringing diseases, bacteria and parasites, according to The Portland Press Herald.
However, one business said Sweden disregards common sense and jeopardizes an international market and Maine’s economy.
