Scallop imports into the United States in the first five months of the yeardropped sharply, dragged down primarily by a huge decline in overall imports ofPeruvian and Chinese product.

Through May, scallop imports reached 9,619 metric tons, worth some $149.4million (€136.5 million).

The figures are down 33 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively.
