Hy-Vee Inc. is changing the way it does business in the United States, stating it will only sell responsibly sourced fresh and frozen seafood by the end of next year, including transitioning from Russian king crab to Alaskan king crab.

The project, two years in the making, came together after working with FishWise, a non-profit dedicated to supporting sustainability through environmentally responsible business practices.

As part of its commitment, Hy-Vee, one of America's biggest grocery chains, is launching a new “Responsible Choice” label next month for its products that meet, are equivalent to the green or yellow ratings from Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, or are credible, time-bound improvement processes.
