US Marshals seized around 5,000 cases of ready-to-eat frozen Jonah crab products from a Massachusetts-based company after US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigators determined the product was being prepared, packed and held under unsanitary conditions that posed a health risk.

The Marshals made the seizure from Lakeville, Massachusetts-based Rome Packing Company at the request of the FDA and the US Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

Investigations from November 2014 through January 2015 found poor sanitation processes, including a lack of adequate temperatures to prevent the growth of pathogens such as listeria.
