As prices for pangasius remain low, imports into the United States from Vietnam – by far the world’s leader in pangasius production – are up by 39.6 percent this year as of May.
US frozen seafood supplier Beaver Street Fisheries told IntraFish its sales price for pangasius has dropped five percent over the last year. The drop has helped sales, but not enough to compensate for the lower prices. The company's margins are down.
Yet pangasius is selling far better than other species, Charles Trager, director of purchasing for Beaver Street Fisheries, told IntraFish.
