Entering the fourth day of the US government shutdown seafood importers and exporters are hopeful there’s enough staff to process shipments without interruption to their business, but some changes have already occurred in the import process.

Richard Stavis, president and CEO of Stavis Seafoods, told IntraFish there’s growing concern about having to keep products at port because of the furloughed staff at federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

“It’s really a state of upheaval,” Stavis said.
