The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) catfish inspection program has once again drawn the ire of the non-partisan US Government Accountability Office (GAO), which is urging Congress to "consider repealing provisions of the 2008 Farm Bill assigning the [USDA] responsibility for examining and inspecting catfish and for creating a catfish inspection program."

“With this being the 10th occasion the GAO has featured USDA catfish inspection, we can find no other single federal program that has been targeted as many times,” said NFI Communications Manager Lynsee Fowler.
