The US farmers co-op KAAPA (Kearney Area Ag Producers Alliance) has entered the aquaculture industry for the first time with its purchase of a 30-year-old shrimp farm on the south coast of Texas.
Known as the Harlingen Shrimp Farm, it has a production capacity of over a million pounds, KAAPA Executive Director Marge Lauer told IntraFish.
Two-hundred investors helped KAAPA purchase the farm from Texas AgFinance, which had taken ownership of the farm from its previous owners – named the Harlingen Shrimp Farm – two years ago “in lieu of foreclosure,” Lauer said.The
