The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is adjusting the retention limit for the upcoming Atlantic bluefin tuna season, which will go from June 1 through August 31.
“A three-fish limit starting June 1 provides reasonable opportunity to harvest the available sub-quota without exceeding it while also maintaining equitable distribution of fishing opportunities, helping to achieve optimum yield, and collecting a broad range of data for stock monitoring purposes,” NMFS said.
The limit will be three bluefin tunas measuring 73 inches or greater per vessel day.
